2022 Owl Prowl

The Stratford Field Naturalists Socially Distanced Snowy Owl Outing in North Perth on Feb 12, turned out to be a great winter outing. The conditions were extremely variable and ranged from blowing snow with reduced visibility to some blue skies with a clear snowy landscape that seemed at times to stretch forever into the distance. The roads were well cleared and we were able to scour North Perth for winter wildlife. There was a strong wind chill and it did result in several new observations for the group including Starlings sheltering out of the wind on silo covers and Snow Buntings on the lee side of some barn roofs. I believe most of us who were travelling around in our warm autos were also impressed with tenacity of the Mennonites that we encountered to endure these harsh winter conditions while we were driving along the country roads in our warm autos. The group of ladies near Dorking going to the local store in through the driving snow was truly impressive.

A great day to be out in North Perth to experience these winter conditions. I also believe that most people saw at least four snowy owls.
