Roadside Cleanup

Stratford Field Naturalists Roadside Cleanup April 27, 2018

Despite the cold and threatening weather, 8 hardy participants appeared to tackle the roadside cleanup from Stratford westward towards Sebringville. The group was bolstered by the return of Howard Williams all the way from Nova Scotia to assist with the event. In total 18 bags of garbage were collected from Stratford to the Camp-out corner.

Highlights included a vast collection of Tim Hortons and McDonald’s products and of course the ever present cigarette cartons. A Red-tail Hawk greeted us near the museum site as it fed on the carcass of a raccoon.

We were treated to hot chocolate and coffee by a resident who was very pleased with the groups efforts to clean-up the roadside. Of course no clean-up would be complete without the discovery of money and Steve managed to find a new style $20 bill just before the end of the project. The group was joined by an additional 5 members for pizza, libation and good cheer to complete the evening.
