Lake Huron Trip
Lake Huron Shoreline Bird Outing, November 4, 2017
On a cool, overcast day a group of 16 people traveled to various locations along the Lake Huron Shoreline from Goderich to Kincardine looking for late season migrants along the coast. Goderich Harbour, Point Clark, Kincardine and Chalmers Pond just north of Kincardine all provided the group with good opportunities to observe a variety of species.
Highlights of the day were Brant, Cackling Goose and Snow Geese at Chalmers Pond, Horned Grebes, Great Black Backed Gull and a Dunlin at Kincardine, Long-tailed ducks, Buffleheads, Northern Shoveler and Lesser Scaup at the Kincardine Lagoons, our first flock of Snow Buntings at Point Clark and Long-tailed ducks and Bonaparte’s Gulls at Goderich for a total of 31 species.
Lunch was enjoyed by all at Tim’s in Kincardine. Terry Crabe kept a running total for the day and the group observed 31 species of birds on our trip.
